PAC Youth Season Begins, Players and Volunteers Wanted
As we turn our attention to the summer sevens season for the senior team, the PAC youth programs also begin playing. As many of you know, PAC has non-contact youth programs in Silver Spring and in Bailey's Crossroads. Both programs have met with great success on the field and great success in growing and building the programs. Last summer the Silver Spring program had over 125 participants. And this year, the Silver spring program will also introduce tackle for interested u13 and u15 players.
Though the programs based in Silver Spring, MD and Bailey's Crossroads VA, though players from any community are welcome. Co-ed teams are organized to suit the number of youth in the program. And both programs are always looking for new players! We hope you will take an opportunity to share this with your friends, family and neighbors!
The Silver Spring club participates in the Potomac Rugby Union Youth League with other under-9, under-11, under-13, under-15 teams from the Washington metro area. Also, in Silver Spring we offer an "in-house" u7 program to teach the basics and encourage participation of all ages. The older of these players will sometimes get a chance to play in the under-9 games. The Bailey's club participates under-9, under-11, under-13, under-15 within the Northern Virginia conference. Typically, the under-9 and under-11 will practice together but play as u9 and u11 teams. Similarly the under-13 and under-15 squads train together though play in different age based divisions. Occasionally players will cross over to a different age group if skill levels and competition is appropriate. The program runs for about 9 weeks, during June and July. As you could guess, 100+ players, multiple teams and multiple age groups require plenty of coaches - and both programs are looking for additional coaches (even part-time coaches who might also be playing sevens). It's important to note, active players as coaches can help these young players connect to the senior club! For more information, see the PAC Youth rugby web site - www.PACYouthRugby.org - or contact Derek Ryan (dgryan69ATyahoo.com) for our Bailey's program or Tom Lyons (pacyouthrugbyATgmail.com) regarding the Silver Spring program.
