  Game Fields

 GET DIRECTIONS:


I. PAC HOME FIELD - 15th and Independence Ave (Wallenberg field)

(The field is located in downtown Washington DC, at the corner of 15th Street and Independence Avenue, S.W. (southwest) , across the street from the Washington Monument and the back of the Holocaust Memorial Museum (Note: 15th street at this location is also called Wallenburg Place)

---To get to the PAC field from North of Washington D.C. (Baltimore, Pennsylvania, etc. (Directions from South of D.C. are also given below):

1. Take 1-95 South to the Capital Beltway which circles D.C. its inner suburbs. (The Beltway heading east is labeled 1-95) (From Philadelphia to the Beltway is about a 2.5 hour drive. Allow at least an additional 50 minutes for the remainder of the trip to the field for a total of about 3.5 hours.)

2. Get onto the Beltway and head east (clockwise on most maps) on the Beltway to Exit 19 and exit onto Route 50 going into D.C. (Route inside the Beltway is also called New York Avenue).

3. Continue on Route 50 (New York Ave.) to 7th Street NW (Northwest) (From Exit 19 to 7th Street NW is approximately 10 miles.)

4. Turn left onto 7th Street NW and head south (towards the Potomac River) about 1.5 miles to Independence Avenue. (You will cross the Capital Mall park area Before reaching Independence.)

5. Turn right onto Independence and head west to the intersection of 15th street and Independence Avenue. The rugby field will be on your left just across the street from the Washington Monument.

PARKING:

(Parking is available across the street from the southern end zone of the rugby field (the end of the field near the Tidal Basin Lake-the end farthest away from the Washington Monument.)

To get to this parking area you will have to continue west on Independence past the rugby field. Stay in the left lane. You will cross a stone bridge over the Tidal Basin Lake on your left.
A little over a quarter mile past 15th Street you should have an opportunity to circle back and head east on Independence back towards the rugby field. You will cross the stone bridge over the Tidal Basin. Immediately after the bridge bear right onto Maine Avenue heading south Go a few hundred yards and turn right into the Tidal Basin lake parking area by the refreshment stand and paddle boat pier.

---Directions to the PAC Field from South of D.C. (Richmond, VA, etc.)

A Take I-395) thru suburban Virginia (Alexandria and Arlington) and into D.C.

B I-395 crosses the Potomac River and enters D.C. at the 14th Street Bridge. Once across the bridge head north a few blocks on 14th you reach Independence Ave.

C Turn left onto Independence and head west to the corner of 15th street
and Independence Avenue, S.W. (A left turn onto Independence is probably illegal. You may have to turn right onto Independence and then make a u-turn and then head west. Sorry.) At the corner of 15th and Independence, the rugby field will be just across the street from the Washington Monument. Follow directions given above for parking.


II. DIRECTIONS TO KENILWORTH PARK FIELDS

(The entrance to Kenilworth park is in N.E. Washington D.C. ,an area of town called Anacostia , at the intersection of Kenilworth Ave. and Burroughs Ave, a quarter mile northwest of the Minnesota Ave .Metro Subway Station.)

---How to get to Kenilworth Park from north of D.C. (New York, Philadelphia,Baltimore, etc.):

1. From Baltimore and points north of D.C. head south on 1-95 to the Washington Beltway which circles D.C. and its nearby suburbs.

2. Get onto the Beltway and head east (clockwise on most maps) to Beltway Exit 22.

3. At Beltway Exit 22 (which is where the Baltimore-Washington Parkway meets the Beltway) continue south towards D.C. on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. The parkway will end. However continue south on what will now be Kenilworth Ave. Continue south on Kenilworth to the intersection of Kenilworth and Burroughs Ave. (The full name is Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave). (From Exit 22 to Burroughs is roughly 7 miles or so.)

3. Turn right at Burroughs & continue a few yards to the park entrance road.

4. The fields will be about one quarter mile down the entrance road on the right.

(Important: Do not confuse Kenilworth Park with the nearby Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. That is a different place.)

---How to get to Kenilworth Park from south of Washington (Virginia, etc.) and also downtown
Washington:

A. Take I-95 north to the Washington Beltway that circles Washington D.C. and its nearby
suburbs. Get onto the beltway and go to exit 2 near the Woodrow Wilson Bridge on the
Maryland side of the bridge.

B. Exit onto Rt. 295 North . Continue north on 295 until you reach the Burroughs-Minnesota Ave. Exit.

C.. Go down the exit ramp to a stop light and make a left onto Burrough's Avenue
it's full name is Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave.) You will go underneath a highway
overpass. A short distance away is the entrance to Kenilworth Park just beyond
the intersection of Burrough's Avenue and Kenilworth Avenue.

D. Drive down the park entrance road. The park is a big place. The fields will
about a quarter mile down the entrance road on the right.

---To get to Kenilworth from downtown Washington, D.C. (US. Capitol area):

From the U.S. Capitol area take one of the bridges that cross the Anacostia River. Once you're on the other side of the river get onto Rt. 295 North and
follow directions B, C, and D above.


III. DIRECTIONS TO THE RUGBY FIELD AT GRAVELY POINT (NEAR NATIONAL AIRPORT)

Location on the Virginia side of the Potomac River across from downtown DC. (The field is right along the Potomac river just north of the runway at National Airport.) ---To get to Gravely Point from downtown Washington D.C.:

A. Head south on 14th street to the 14th Street bridge that crosses the Potomac River into
Virginia. Continue south on the bridge over the Potomac River to Virginia. On the bridge
stay in the right lane. Immediately on the Virginia side of the bridge (be alert) exit onto the
George Washington Parkway heading south towards National Airport and Alexandria, VA. (Look for G. W. parkway and/or National Airport Signs.)

B. Head south on the G.W. Parkway not quite a mile to National Airport. While heading south you should be able to see the fields beside the river on your left on the other side of the
median, but to get to the fields you must continue into National Airport and then circle back
onto the G.W. Parkway heading north back to the 14th Street Bridge.

C. About a quarter of mile before the bridge you should be able to turn right into the parking
area for the field.

---From south of D.C. suburban northern Virginia to get to the field:

1. Take 1-395 North up to the 14th Street Bridge.

2. Do not cross the bridge. Just before the bridge exit onto the G.W. parkway heading south

to National Airport and Alexandria, Virginia. Follow steps B and C above.


IV. DIRECTIONS TO TANGLEWOOD RECREATION CENTERCENTER

From Northern Virginia:

Take I-495 (the Capital Beltway Outer Loop) towards Alexandria.

Cross over the Wilson Bridge drive seven miles to Maryland Exit 7.

From Exit 7, Take Branch Avenue going South. Drive about four miles and take the Woodyard Road (MD Route 223) exit towards Mellwood.  Make a left onto Woodyard from the ramp.  Tanglewood is 3/4 mile on your left.

 

From Montgomery County, MD

Follow Capital Beltway Inner Loop (I-495)  to Maryland Exit 7.

From Exit 7, Take Branch Avenue going South. Drive about four miles and take the Woodyard Road (MD Route 223) exit towards Mellwood.  Make a left onto Woodyard from the ramp.  Tanglewood is 3/4 mile on your left.

 

From Baltimore, MD:

Take I-95 South to Exit 22.  Continue on I-95 South / I-495 South (Capital Beltway Inner Loop) for 15 miles to Maryland Exit 7

From Exit 7, Take Branch Avenue going South. Drive about four miles and take the Woodyard Road (MD Route 223) exit towards Mellwood.  Make a left onto Woodyard from the ramp.  Tanglewood is 3/4 mile on your left.

 

From Capitol Hill (Washington, DC):

Take Pennsylvania Ave, SE out of town (going east).  Cross over the Souza Bridge (over the Anacostia River) and go another mile to Branch Avenue.  Take a right onto Branch Avenue and follow for eight miles (out of DC and into Maryland).  Take the Woodyard Road (MD Route 223) exit towards Mellwood.  Make a left onto Woodyard from the ramp.  Tanglewood is 3/4 mile on your left.

 

From State College, PA:

Take PA Route 322 to Harrisburg.  In Harrisburg, get onto I-83 South, towards Baltimore.  Follow I-83 South into Maryland. 

Take I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) West towards Washington / Catonsville.  Follow I-695 to Exit 11 (I-95).  Take I-95 South for 22 miles to the Capital Beltway. 

Continue on I-95 South / I-495 South (Capital Beltway Inner Loop) for 20 miles to Exit 7 -- Branch Avenue (MD Route 5). 

Take Branch Avenue going South. Drive about four miles and take the Woodyard Road (MD Route 223) exit towards Mellwood.  Make a left onto Woodyard from the ramp.  Tanglewood is 3/4 mile on your left.

Alternate:  Take U.S. Route 15 South from Harrisburg into Frederick, MD, then take I-270 to the Capital Beltway.  Follow Capital Beltway Inner Loop for 28 miles to Exit 7

 

From Philadelphia, PA:

Take I-95 South into Maryland. 

As you come into Baltimore Take Exit 62 -- I-895 South (Harbor Tunnel).  FYI -- at mile marker 62, you will come to the I-95 / I-895 Split. 

Follow I-895 for about 10 miles, and take Exit 4 South (Baltimore-Washington Parkway, MD Route 295). 

Follow the B-W Parkway about 19 miles to the Capital Beltway. 

Take I-95/I-495 South towards Andrews AFB / Richmond. 

Follow the Beltway for 15 miles to Exit 7 -- Branch Avenue (MD Route 5).

Take Branch Avenue going South. Drive about four miles and take the Woodyard Road (MD Route 223) exit towards Mellwood.  Make a left onto Woodyard from the ramp.  Tanglewood is 3/4 mile on your left.

 

Directions to the Bottom Line from Tanglewood Recreation Center:

Take a right out of the parking Lot, go  Mile to MD Route 5. 

Take MD Route 5 North into Washington, DC for 7 miles. 

Get onto the Suitland Parkway towards Washington DC and take the Parkway for 3 miles. 

Take I-295 North towards Downtown.  Go two miles and merge onto I-395 North. 

Go about one mile on I-395 and take the Massachusetts Avenue Exit. 

Left on Massachusetts Ave and go  mile. 

Take a slight left onto K Street and go one block to New York Avenue.

Take another slight left turn onto New York Avenue and go 1.5 blocks to I (Eye) Street.  Take a slight right onto Eye Street and go about 10 blocks. 

The Bottom Line is located at 1716 Eye Street, NW between 17th and 18th Streets, NW, Washington, DC - directions HERE


V. DIRECTIONS TO FIELDS BESIDE THE REFLECTING POOL IN FRONT OF THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL (SITE OF THE CHERRY BLOSSOM TOURNAMENT)

---From North of Washington, D.C. (Baltimore. Philadelphia. etc.):

1 Take 1-95 south to the Capitol Beltway which surrounds Washington, D.C. and its near suburbs. Take the beltway heading southeast (clockwise on most maps).

2 Take exit 19 onto Route 50 heading west into D.C At the D.C. city limits Route 50 continues as New York Avenue Continue on N.Y. Avenue until you reach 7th Street, N.W. Make a left onto 7th Street and continue south (towards the Potomac River) approximately 1.25 miles until you reach Independence Avenue on the south side of the Capitol Mall park area..

3. Turn right onto Independence and continue west on Independence Ave. approximately 1.4 miles to intersection of Ohio Drive and Independence Ave. The Lincoln Memorial and the tournament fields in front of the Memorial will be on your right inside the Capitol Mall park area. (Parking, however, will be on your left along Ohio Drive right along the river.)

WARNING: PARKING SPACES FILL UP QUICKLY ARRIVE EARLY.

---From South of Washington D.C. (Virginia):

1 Take 1-95 North to the Capitol Beltway which surrounds D.C. and its near suburbs
where you continue north on 1-395 ( the Shirley Highway) towards D.C Eventually I- 395
will cross the Potomac River into D.C. via the 14th street bridge.

2 Stay in the left bridge lanes and continue after crossing onto 14th Street approximately one quarter mile to Independence Avenue. Turn left onto Independence and continue west approximately 1.4 miles to the intersection of Ohio Drive and Independence Ave. [Important: the signs may say no left turn onto Independence. So you may have to make a right onto Independence and then make a U turn to get heading in the right direction (west) on Independence.]

At Ohio Drive and Independence the Lincoln Memorial and the tournament fields and reflecting pool in front of the Memorial will be on your right on the Capitol Mall park area (Parking, however, will be on your left along Ohio Drive along the river.)

WARNING: PARKING SPACES FILL UP QUICKLY ARRIVE EARLY.


VI. DIRECTIONS TO FIELD AT BURNING TREE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN BETHESDA, MD.

---From the Beltway (I-495) that circles Washington, D.C. and its
inner suburbs:

1 Take I-495 to the River Rd exit in Bethesda, Md.

2 Exit onto River Road heading towards Washington, D.C.

3 After aproximately 1 mile take a left onto Beech Tree Road.

4 The Burning Tree Elementary School is located about 1/4 mile
up the road on the left The field is behind the school.

(If you are coming from Washington, D.C. it may be easier
to head out River Road from D.C. to Bethesda and make a right
onto Beech Tree.)


VII. DIRECTIONS THE FREDERICK RFC RUGBY FIELDS AT FORT DETRICK IN FREDERICK, MARYLAND (From downtown D.C. give yourself at least an hour to get to the fields.)

1 From the D.C. area take I-270 North to 15 North.

2 Continue on 15 N to the 7th Street Exit. Take the 7th Street Exit.

3 At the bottom of the exit ramp turn right.

4 Then continue till you reach the gate at Fort Detrick.

5 Tell the guard you're there to play rugby, then continue straight and park at the softball fields. The rugby fieldis nearby.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT SPEED ON THE BASE! The MP's strickly enforce the speed limits.
ALSO, NO ALCOHOL IS ALLOWED AT THE FIELD AND YOU MUST BRING PHOTO-ID.


VIII. DIRECTIONS TO FORT MCNAIR IN SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON D.C.

---From Virginia:

Take I-395 North to the 14th Street bridge which crosses the Potomac River into Washington, D.C. Stay in the right lane on the bridge.
On the Washington D.C. side of the bridge continue on I-395 to the Maine Avenue exit. Take the Maine Ave. exit.
At the stop light turn left onto Maine Avenue.
Continue on Maine, which turns into "M" Street to 4th Street S.W.(southwest).
Turn right onto 4th Street and head south (towards the Potomac River) about 4 or so blocks.
The entrance gate to Ft. McNair is on your right just after 4th Street curves left and turns into P Street.

Show I.D. at the M.P. gate. Tell the M.P. you're there to play rugby The field is directly ahead of you.

---To get to Ft. McNair from the area of the U.S. Capitol Bldg. in Washington, DC:

Head south (towards the Potomac River) on South Capitol Street to M Street.
Turn right onto M Street and head west to 4th Street S.W.
Turn onto 4th Street and head south (towards the Potomac River) about 4 or so blocks.
The entrance gate to Ft. McNair is on your right just after 4th Street curves left and turns into P Street.

Show I.D. at the M.P. gate. Tell the M.P. you're there to play rugby The field is directly ahead of you.

WARNING: This is a military base. NO ALCOHOL OR DOGS ALLOWED.

The nearest Metro Subway Station is the Waterfront Station on the Green Line on M Street, near the corner of 4th Street S.W. and M Street, about 4 blocks north of Fort McNair.


IX. DIRECTIONS TO THE OLD BLUE RUGBY FIELD,
VAN COURTLAND PARK IN THE BRONX (NEW YORK CITY)

---From Washington, D.C.:

1 Take I-95 north through New Jersery to the George Washington Bridge, which crosses into New York City.

2 Go over George Washington Bridge. Look for signs for Major Deegan Highway North, toward the end of the bridge.

3 Take Major Deegan North about 3-4 miles to the Van Cortland South exit
Stay to right on exit - Make right back over the Major Deegan
Make right at Broadway (under the train tracks)
Go about 1/2 mile on Broadway Field is on right across from the
Landsdowne Bar.


X. DIRECTIONS TO PHILADELPHIA-WHITEMARSH'S FIELDS IN PHILADELPHIA, PA
AND CLUBHOUSE IN CONSHOHOCKEN, PA

NOTE: The Club's facilities are both in Philadelphia and Conshohocken.

The main match pitch is located in Philadelphia at Memorial Hall, 42nd and Parkside, Fairmount Park.

Directions (MAIN PITCH - Memorial Hall)
Take the Schuylkill expressway (I-76) from I95 to the Montgomery Blvd. exit.
Take a left and go 1/2 mile to the light at Belmont Av.
Take a left and go 1/2 mile to the first light, N. Concourse, go left and the pitch is 1/4 mile up on the right.

If you're coming from the PA turnpike, get off atexit 24 Valley Forge,
take the Schuylkill expressway (I-76) towards Philadelphia.
Go fifteen miles to the Montgomery Blvd. exit.
Take a right at the bottom of the exit ramp and follow the above directions.

Directions (CLUB HOUSE -party site)
Take (I-76) from either of the two ways above and get off at the Conshohocken exit.
Cross over the bridge across the river and go to the 1st light (ELM St.).
Take a left go one mile through two lights and a stop sign.
The Club house will be on your right just before the interstate underpass.


XI. DIRECTIONS TO NORTH BAY RFC FIELD (ABERDEEN, MD, JUST NORTH OF BALTIMORE)

From Washington, DC:

Head north on I-95 past Baltimore. Take exit 85 (Route 22) heading into Aberdeen.

At the first light on route 22 make a left onto Beards Hill and into the shopping center.

The pitch is located behind the Kmart, down the hill and through the path by the pond.


XII. DIRECTIONS TO WESTERN SUBURBS RFC FIELD -- (BRADDOCK PARK,CENTERVILLE, VA)

The easiest way to get to Braddock Park from any direction, is to get on Interstate 66 (westbound if coming from the Capitol Beltway, eastbound if coming from the mountains). Take I66 to the Route 28 South exit.

Stay on Route 28 across Route 29 to New Braddock Road (just past the Multiplex Theaters). Turn left onto New Braddock Road and continue until you arrive at the park entrance on the right.

For the adventuresome, from I66 you can also exit onto the southbound portion of the Fairfax County Parkway. Head south until the Braddock Road Exit. At the end of the exit ramp, turn right (heading west). Stay on Braddock Road until you reach the park which will be on the left.


XIII. DIRECTIONS TO QUANTICO, VA. MARINE BASE FIELD

From Washington, D.C. take I-95 south to Exit 150A (Quantico Exit). Follow this through the front gate of the Quantico Marine Base. (Tell the guard you're there to play rugby.)

After the gate go approx. 3 miles. You will pass the golf course and then pass through 2 traffic lights.

About a block after the 2nd light, the rugby field will be on your left. Park in the lot just past the field.


XIV. DIRECTIONS TO THE US NAVAL ACADEMY RUGBY FIELDS

Take exit 19 (50 East towards Annapolis) off the Beltway.
Exit Route 50 at Rowe Blvd. (exit #24) and bear to the right.
Proceed straight on Rowe Blvd, Take a left on Taylor Ave. (second light).
Bear right at stop sign, Proceed straight through light.
Take right at second light, Gate 8 - this will take you right onto the Naval Academy.
Take your second left after you enter the gate (right before a small bridge).
Take an immediate right and follow it around to the pitch.

--If you go over water once, you have gone too far.
