Summer Sevens Training Tuesday and Thursday Nights

Starting Thursday, May 21, 2010, PAC will hold summer sevens training at PAC's home field, 15th and Independence. Be there warmed up and ready to go at 7 p.m. until dusk.
 
The field is located in downtown Washington DC, at the corner of 15th Street and Independence Avenue, S.W. (southwest) , across the street from the Washington Monument and the back of the Holocaust Memorial Museum (Note: 15th street at this location is also called Wallenburg Place)

---To get to the PAC field from North of Washington D.C. (Baltimore, Pennsylvania, etc. (Directions from South of D.C. are also given below):

1. Take 1-95 South to the Capital Beltway which circles D.C. its inner suburbs. (The Beltway heading east is labeled 1-95) (From Philadelphia to the Beltway is about a 2.5 hour drive. Allow at least an additional 50 minutes for the remainder of the trip to the field for a total of about 3.5 hours.)

2. Get onto the Beltway and head east (clockwise on most maps) on the Beltway to Exit 19 and exit onto Route 50 going into D.C. (Route inside the Beltway is also called New York Avenue).

3. Continue on Route 50 (New York Ave.) to 7th Street NW (Northwest) (From Exit 19 to 7th Street NW is approximately 10 miles.)

4. Turn left onto 7th Street NW and head south (towards the Potomac River) about 1.5 miles to Independence Avenue. (You will cross the Capital Mall park area Before reaching Independence.)

5. Turn right onto Independence and head west to the intersection of 15th street and Independence Avenue. The rugby field will be on your left just across the street from the Washington Monument.

PARKING: Parking is available across the street from the southern end zone of the rugby field (the end of the field near the Tidal Basin Lake-the end farthest away from the Washington Monument.

To get to this parking area you will have to continue west on Independence past the rugby field. Stay in the left lane. You will cross a stone bridge over the Tidal Basin Lake on your left.

A little over a quarter mile past 15th Street you should have an opportunity to circle back and head east on Independence back towards the rugby field. You will cross the stone bridge over the Tidal Basin. Immediately after the bridge bear right onto Maine Avenue heading south Go a few hundred yards and turn right into the Tidal Basin lake parking area by the refreshment stand and paddle boat pier.

---Directions to the PAC Field from South of D.C. (Richmond, VA, etc.)

A Take I-395) thru suburban Virginia (Alexandria and Arlington) and into D.C.

B I-395 crosses the Potomac River and enters D.C. at the 14th Street Bridge. Once across the bridge head north a few blocks on 14th you reach Independence Ave.

C Turn left onto Independence and head west to the corner of 15th street
and Independence Avenue, S.W. (A left turn onto Independence is probably illegal. You may have to turn right onto Independence and then make a u-turn and then head west. Sorry.) At the corner of 15th and Independence, the rugby field will be just across the street from the Washington Monument. Follow directions given above for parking.

By Metro

Watkins Recreation Center is accessible by rail.

Get off at Eastern Market and walk SE down Pennsylvania Avenue away from the Capitol, cross the street and follow E Street to the field which is near Safeway and opposite CVS next to Watkins Elementary School.

 

By Car

First, get to 395 North

Take 395 North over the 14th Street Bridge (stay in the right lanes going over the bridge).

Continue on 395 (South East - South West Freeway) you will be heading East (get in one of the two left lanes). You are not going to go in any of the tunnels.

Take the 6 ST exit it is the second exit after the exits for the tunnels.

Keep LEFT at the fork in the ramp.

Merge onto 6TH ST SE.

Turn RIGHT onto PENNSYLVANIA AVE SE.

Turn LEFT onto 12TH ST SE.

King Green Leaf

Starting Tuesday, September 8, Fall training will be held at King Green Leaf, located on 201 N St., SW, Washington, D.C. from 7:30 p.m.

By Metro
King Green Leaf Recreation Center is accessible by rail but it involves some walking. You can get off at the Waterfront (green line) metro stations. From the Water front you will come up the escalator and take a right (go towards Safeway). Go down M Street until you reach Delaware (about 2 blocks). Take a right on Delaware (by the Church) and go one block field will be on the left.

By car from the South
First, get to 395 North - Then: take 395 North over the 14th Street Bridge (stay in the right lanes going over the bridge). Continue on 395 you will be heading East (get in one of the two left lanes). You are not going to go in any of the tunnels. Take the first exit after the exits for the tunnels (South Capital Street). When you come off the ramp take your second Right, M Street. Take a left onto Delaware (there will be a church on the corner) Field is on your left one block down.


Randall Recreation Center

Parking: Remember to park inside the rec center parking lot.  Access parking lot from Delaware Avenue, SW. 

Closest Metrorail stop: Capitol South (First St. between C & D Sts. SE, 4 blocks North of Randall Rec), on the Orange / Blue Lines. More information at www.wmata.com. Proceed from station, to Capitol South, proceed under 395, Rec Center on your right.

Deanwood Recreation Centre 

Deanwood is located next to the Deanwood Metro Station (Orange Line) at 49th Street and Quarles Street, NE, Washington, DC.


7th & G SW 

Practice Park near L'Enfant Plaza on the Maine Avenue Exit. Turn left at top of exit. Pitch is on the right by Jefferson Jr. High School which is on 7th & G Sts., SW.  

From Virginia:
Take 395 N across the 14th Street Bridge
Bear RIGHT once you cross the bridge, following the signs for 395N
Take the Maine Avenue exit
Take a LEFT at the stop sign onto G Street
The school and field are immediately to your right
Parking is on the street (note: G St. is a one-way street)

By Metro:
Take the metro (any color line but red) to L'Enfant Plaza
Exit onto 7th Street and walk south (away from the Mall)
After a block or two, you will cross over 395
Take a RIGHT on G Street (the next block)
You will see the school and field

From DC and Maryland:
Get yourself to 7th Street
Take 7th Street through the city
After you pass the Mall, you will cross over 395
The next street is G Street: DO NOT turn right onto G; that's the wrong way on a one-way street
Park on 7th Street just past G Street, or take the next right and park in the school's parking lot


Georgetown Turf

This is an astroturf, field, so wear appropriate footwear.

Metrobus and Metrorail    The University is served by the G-2, D-2 and D-4 Metrobuses routes. Check the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) website for schedules. The closest Metrorail stops are Rosslyn on the Blue/Orange Line and Dupont Circle on the Red Line. See the GUTS link for information on shuttle service to and from those locations.

FREE OFF-CAMPUS: You can park on Reservoir Road for Free after 6:30pm. from M Street or Reservoir Road, follow signs to the Medical Center. Park close to Entrance #4 to the Medical Center. Walk up the entrance (Behind Building D) and you will see the lights. Walk up the path to the back of the field. You can also park at the main gates (at 37th and O Streets, and walk there)

PAID: You can park at the Leavey Center Garage (Building 22) and walk over, or Park in Lot 3 (access from Canal Road) and walk up towards the Yates Field house (Kehoe is built on the roof of the Field House).

From Washington, DC:

1. From Northwest Washington: take Wisconsin Ave. south to Reservoir Rd., turn right. Turn left at Entrance 1, just past 38th St.

2. From Southeast Washington: take Pennsylvania Ave. West to Independence Ave. Bear left. Take Independence to 12th St., N.W., and turn right. Take 12th St. to K St. and turn left. Follow K St. to Whitehurst Freeway. Turn left onto Canal Rd. Stay in right lane. Bear right into campus.

3. From Northeast Washington: take Rhode Island Ave. west until it feeds into M St. Take M St. through Georgetown and past the Key Bridge. Stay in right lane. Bear right into campus.
